Albums
Toto's discography includes 13 studio albums and four live albums. There are also compilations. In addition to releasing original music, Toto has also done collaborations with other artists and on soundtracks for films. Toto has won numerous Grammy Awards.
Before Toto was formed the members of the group played sessions for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session drummer Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs' 1975 album Silk Degrees. The collaboration led to the formation of Toto in 1976.
The band's third album, Turn Back, marked a departure from the more progressive sound of their earlier efforts and was criticized for its absence of hit singles. In 1985 the group's singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group and the band held auditions to find a new frontman. The band picked guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in 1986.
In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by scouring through demos and tapes from the past to release a special record called Toto XX. The album was well-received by fans and the band embarked on a tour with former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro, and Joseph Williams.
Shem von Schröck replaced Leland Sklar as the drummer during the tour for the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live album titled Falling in Between, which included live recordings from the tour as well as an interview with Toto.
